Body Composition
The Next Level in Body Scanning
Your weight alone doesn’t show how healthy, strong, or balanced your body really is. That’s why at Harbor DPC, we use the InBody 580 Body Composition Analyzer — an advanced tool that provides a deeper look at what’s happening inside your body.
What it Measures:
Muscle mass in different regions of the body
Body fat percentage and visceral fat
(the fat around your organs that impacts long-term health)
Hydration status and body water balance
Cellular health
through a measure called Phase Angle, which reflects how well your cells are functioning
How it Works:

InBody 580 Frequently Asked Questions:
What does the InBody 580 measure?
The InBody 580 measures your body composition — including muscle mass, body fat, water balance, and more — to give a complete picture of your overall health.
How is it different from a regular scale?
Unlike a normal scale that only shows weight, the InBody 580 reveals what your weight is made of — fat, muscle, and water — helping track real progress and health improvements.
How does the scan work?
It uses safe, low-level electrical currents (bioelectrical impedance) to analyze your body composition in just 45 seconds — completely pain-free and noninvasive.
Do I need to prepare for the scan?
Yes. For best accuracy, avoid eating, drinking, or exercising 2–3 hours before your scan, and wear light, comfortable clothing.
How long does the scan take?
Only about a minute! You’ll stand on the device, hold the handles, and the scanner does the rest.
Is it safe?
Absolutely. The InBody 580 is FDA-approved and safe for most people. However, it’s not recommended for those with pacemakers or other implanted electronic devices.
What do the results tell me?
You’ll receive a detailed report showing your body fat percentage, muscle distribution, water balance, and overall body composition — giving you actionable insights for fitness and wellness goals.
How often should I get scanned?
Many patients do a scan every 4–6 weeks to track progress and make informed adjustments to their fitness or nutrition plan.
Can it help with my weight loss or fitness goals?
Yes! The scan helps identify whether you’re losing fat, gaining muscle, or improving hydration — allowing your provider to tailor a plan that truly fits your body’s needs.
How accurate is the InBody 580?
The InBody 580 is highly accurate, using advanced multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance technology that provides results comparable to clinical methods when preparation guidelines are followed.
What is considered a good InBody score?
A good InBody score typically reflects balanced muscle mass, healthy body fat levels, and proper water distribution. Ideal ranges vary by age, sex, and fitness level, so your provider will interpret your score in context.
